Essential Tips for a Smooth Move: Your Ultimate Apartment Checklist

Text Block 1

Moving into your first apartment? Or maybe it’s your fifth. Either way, there's always something that slips through the cracks, whether it’s an item or a service. Moving can be stressful, but having a checklist from yours truly can make a world of difference. Here's what you need to have in order before moving into your new place:

Measure Before You Buy

Don’t purchase new furniture until you can measure your space. That couch might be super aesthetic and 20% off, but make sure it fits first. Speaking from experience, it’s better to know your space before you buy.

Inspect Your Apartment Before Bringing Your Things In

You’ll receive an inspection document in your portal to check your apartment for any damages. Double-check walls, counters, floors, etc., and list anything you notice. It's crucial to note everything to avoid potential charges later.

The Not-So-Fun Part

Set up your utilities! You’ll be informed about which utilities are included in your rent and which need to be in your name. Set up service before you move in to avoid any last-minute headaches. Also, get renter’s insurance—you won’t regret it. This will protect your belongings in case of theft, fire, or other disasters. Most properties, including ours, require proof of renter’s insurance.

Don't forget to update your address for credit cards, work information, and anything else. It’s a hassle, but it’s necessary to keep everything running smoothly.

For Moving Day

Have the essentials ready to go:

  • Toiletries (you’ll want to brush your teeth when you get a minute)
  • A change of clothes
  • A few kitchen items (so you can at least make eggs and toast)
  • Any documents needed for move-in (hopefully you’re living with us and have our helpful checklist)
