2018 has come and gone… and what a year it has been! We’ve housed thousands of happy residents and made lots of progress on the development front. We’ve gained some new employees, answered hundreds of phone calls and emails, and had a lot of fun along the way! Take a trip down memory lane and see what we’ve been up to this year…
Walnut on Fifth
Walnut on Fifth has been in the works for an entire year and will eventually become a nine-story office building on Fifth Avenue in Oakland. The space will have retail on the first floor and an underground parking garage totaling 310,000 sq ft.
Another development in Oakland. Yep, that’s us! Walnut Capital is working to create the Oakland Innovation District at 234 and 242 McKee Place. The area totals 14,000 square feet in the heart of University of Pittsburgh’s campus. The new structure will span 124,000 square feet and house offices on the upper floors with restaurants and retail on the first level.
Volunteered at Lincoln Elementary Fun Day
We love hanging out with our friends at Lincoln. We had a blast helping out at their annual Fun Day at the end of the school year!
Redevelop and revamp? That’s totally our thing. We managed to grab an old Cadillac dealership on the Boulevard of the Allies in Oakland that will soon house 41,000 sq ft of office space and a 64-car parking garage. Bottom line is, we’re pretty bullish on Oakland.
Pittsburgh Athletic Association
We acquired the historic Pittsburgh Athletic Association building in Oakland this summer and plan to rejuvenate the building with several floors of office space, a private fitness center, and restaurants and coffee shops open to the public. Take a peek at our plans in this video…
School Supply Drive to benefit Lincoln Elementary
Our annual school supply drive was a success again! We donated tons of school supplies for the kindergarten through sixth grade students of Lincoln Elementary School.
This year we also introduced Walnut University! Walnut University is an online learning tool with thousands of courses specific to each employees job duties hosted through Grace Hill. Special shout out to Samantha Sarandis for being a Fair Housing Aficionado, Kellie Cannavine and Alexis Stavros for having the most awards, and the city properties maintenance technicians for coming to the main office to keep up with their courses!
Bakery Office Three Groundbreaking
We broke ground on the final office component at Bakery Square, a nine-story office building set to house over 1,200 employees from Philips Sleep and Respiratory Care. Welcome Home, Philips!
Happy Birthday, Todd!
Our president and principal hit a milestone birthday this October so we got together for a big ‘ol party to celebrate!
This year we took Walnut Crossings from drab to fab…goodbye floral furniture, hello modern chic! Check out the new digs!
And guess who else got a make over? We redid the lobby and fitness center at Walnut Towers this year too!
Our team grew by 20 people this year! We’ve added team members to our accounting, leasing, maintenance, cleaning, and Bakery Square teams in 2018. And we’re so glad we did, because they’re all amazing.
