Our Favorite Restaurants

With more and more restaurants coming on the Pittsburgh scene each year, there’s always a great restaurant to try out. We love food at Walnut Capital- that’s why we decided to ask our staff their favorite place to dine in the ‘Burgh. These are our must-try restaurants around town:

Gaucho Parrilla Argentina

1601 Penn Ave. – Strip District
We’ve all heard about Gaucho, the Argentinian restaurant serving up wood-fired delights in Pittsburgh’s Strip District neighborhood. Known as one of the hottest restaurant stops in the ‘Burgh, this is a must-try. We recommend ordering the Pollo Con-Pan Sandwich and bringing along your favorite bottle of wine to enjoy with it (BYOB)!

DiAnoia’s Eatery

2549 Penn Ave. – Strip District
If you’ve never been to DiAnoia’s Eatery, it’s time to make a reservation! Offering authentic Italian fare in an adorably unique atmosphere, this will quickly become one of your favorite spots to eat in Pittsburgh. We recommend anything and everything off the menu- but one of our personal favorites is their Prosciutto Eggs Benedict during Sunday Brunch. Don’t forget to make a reservation as spots fill up quick!

Carmella’s Plates & Pints

1908 East Carson St. – South Side
At Carmella’s, you’ll feel as though you are tucked away in a warm and cozy ski lodge in the heart of South Side! Always looking for unique items to prepare in new and inventive ways, you’re bound to find several things on the menu that have your mouth watering. Our go-to dish is the Wagon Wheel Mac N Cheese with Smoked Bacon, but no matter what you order you really can’t go wrong!

Nakama

1611 East Carson St. – South Side
Calling hibachi and sushi lovers everywhere! Nakama Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar in Pittsburgh’s historic South Side is a hip, trendy scene where patrons can enjoy the knife wielding skill & showmanship of hibachi chefs & award-winning cuisine. We recommend trying out their Tropical Rainbow Sushi… it won’t disappoint!

Pizza Taglio

126 South Highland Ave. – East Liberty
Known as one of the best pizza shops in Pittsburgh, this BYOB Roman-style pizzeria is nearly a year in the making, and we can’t get enough. No matter if you’re a cheese lover or meat lover, they have something for everyone… but we have to say, their Green Pointer is a must-try!

Kaya

2000 Smallman St. – Strip District
The cuisines of Kaya are inspired by the sea and sun, melding fresh, high quality ingredients with bold flavor and alluring preparation. We highly suggest trying out their Rainbow Salad with Salmon!

Butcher and the Rye

212 Sixth St. – Downtown
At Butcher and the Rye, details carefully come together to create a unique experience that pays homage to the rustic Americana. While everything on the menu is sure to please, their Mac N Cheese is the best in the city!

Sienna Mercato Emporio

942 Penn Ave. – Downtown
Sienna Mercato Emporio is a meatball joint featuring gourmet meatballs, salads, soups, and poutine — all made fresh daily in their scratch kitchen.  We recommend trying out Angry Birds, AKA- chicken balls, government mac & cheese, crack sauce, and crumbled blue-cheese!

Smoke

4115 Butler St. – Lawrenceville
Smoke has been known as one of the best places to dine in the city for some time now! With a fantastic menu, cozy atmosphere, and great selection of drinks, you can’t go wrong. We’re down for any taco on their menu along with some Black Bean Dip!
